How To Be a Human-Centric Leader in the Age of AI

Do you feel disconnected from your manager because of tech? 🙅🏾‍♀️ 💻

I find myself thinking often of how folks are dealing with AI in the workplace as of late. One of the key trends I'm seeing as a real need is the Rise of Human-Centric Leadership. We've got to get better at utilizing AI the right way but also having a real and authentic connection.

According to Forbes and the 8 Workplace Trends That Will Define 2025: As AI takes on traditional managerial tasks, leaders who foster emotional connections and build cohesive teams will be in high demand. Key attributes include empathy and focusing on talent development.

Why is this a challenge?

AI increasingly takes over routine managerial tasks; Think: checking on client status, routine email replies, project management check in's, etc. So now leaders find themselves stepping into a more human-centered role vs rote day to day tasks. It’s no longer enough to oversee tasks and projects; leaders should be guiding their teams through rapid changes, using emotional intelligence and vision.

Are they though? 🤔

As one who is hyper-focused on leadership styles, here's a few tips to help leaders be more focused on the people vs the tech and the tasks:

🦅 Eagle leaders: set a clear direction, focusing on long-term goals and navigating the complex landscape of AI-driven workplaces. Their decisive leadership - that usually moves pretty fast - keeps the team aligned and forward-thinking towards the end goal.

🦜 Parrot leaders bring optimism and energy to human-machine collaboration, creating an atmosphere of creativity and fun for learning something new. Their enthusiastic approach can inspire the team to embrace new technologies and think differently than the norm or from the competition.

🕊️ Dove leaders create a supportive environment, ensuring every individual feels heard, valued, and connected. In this rapidly changing environment, the Dove’s emphasis on harmony and people helps maintain a stable and motivated team.

🦉 Owl leaders analyze data and processes to refine the collaboration between humans and AI. Their thoughtful, analytical mindset ensures that decisions are well-informed, and that the integrating tech actually enhances team performance.

Understand your style (key self awareness!) and the styles of others, and you can transform your approach from "managing tasks" to nurturing talent and building trust. This human-centric leadership model not only helps teams thrive but also bridges the gap between technology and humanity, ensuring success in the AI era.
